28 Days Connection First Journey
Day 5, Motivating Species
What are the fun things around you where you live that are exciting to visit, collect or watch?
Great Day to you my dear friends,
Last weekend I was out in the woods with my nephews, the only people we still meet in person at the moment.
On the way to the pond we found a “Meteorite impact hole” ;-) which we used as a halfpipe, became motocross bikes, played hide and seek, enjoyed a few edible clovers (Oxalis acetosella) and passed by a public fire pit. (In Switzerland there are public fireplaces where everyone can make a fire).
The fireplace looked terribly worn out. I shared my first thought with my nephew,
“We can rebuild this place. Next time we come with a shovel and pickaxe, and give this place a new solid and beautiful fire pit.”
Since I know that he likes to build things, he was fired up! And me too.
What fascinates you? What gets you moving?
Around here it is wild garlic (Allium ursinum) pesto time, have you already made your fresh herb pesto? The herbs that are currently growing in the forest are super healthy for your immune system. Check into that. Be sure to know what is safe to eat, and if you are not sure find someone who does know, or perhaps play it safe with basil from the garden (or store). That, however, doesn’t help with the motivating errand. There are many ways to do this.
Jon’s youngest children get motivated to gather acorns and to bring them home and together as a family they process the acorns and make pancakes or cookies. Be creative, there’s something that moves you, and others around you, to make an errand.
What is there in your sit spot area that you pay attention to every day?
I visit the badger den every day. They have been dragging lots of earth out of the den in the last few days. This is something really fun for me to do each day. I am so curious,
“What has the badger done since I was here? Any news from their world?”
This is something that our friends, the Bushman do each day, too. They call it “the morning paper” where everyone just sort of wanders around and investigates the changes in nature so they can share what they saw or heard, smelt or felt, as they wandered that morning. Everyone loves to share this recipe with one another.
Journal questions:
What attracted me today?
Can you right now point in the direction where you were drawn to?
Where is the nearest quarry where I can search for fossils?
Remember the senses activation and gratitude. Share your story with your full body with your friends and family.
Have fun discovering.
Dearest blessings,
Michi and Jon
